The cars at the auctions are NOT new, but many of them are ALMOST new!  Many of these are current model year cars with VERY low miles!  There may be a group of 100 cars sent by GM, Ford, Toyota or other manufacturers to auction - these may be their demo cars, fleet cars for their executives, cars that are used in TV commercials, etc.  Why pay to buy a brand new car & take the hit on depreciation?  If a new car is hit by a rock in the windshield on the way to a dealer, these cars are rejected by the dealer & sent to the auctions & MUST be sold as a "used" car!!  Even though the window is fixed prior to the sale, it still must be sold as "used!"  Some of these cars are terrific values!  The manufacturers do this to provide a "steady stream" of used car inventory to their dealers.

Some cars are sent to auctions by dealers who are not interested in keeping them on their own lots. Cars are also sold by rental agencies like Hertz, Avis, Thrifty, Dollar, or Enterprise.  Many of these have low miles and are in excellent condition.  There are all makes, models, mileage & age ranges of cars from these agencies.
